  • Broke another rear dampener mounting bolt

Ok - how many of you have had boolts break or fall off of the TL?

Last night on the way home I thought the back end felt a little jumpy - didn't check anything though - today on my way into the office the back end was hopping and bouncing etc.... I figured I knew what had happpened because it would have been the second time - I broke a mounting bolt for the rear suspension dampener.

Now some of you might have noticed my airtime post - well, disreegard that as the reason - the main mounting bolt broke once about 2 years ago when I was still just getting used to the TL after my VFR. Anyway - back to the shop.

The only thing I ever lost/broke on my TLR was the nut that holds the front brake lever on. No big deal!! Thankfully, the bolt is threaded into the lever and didn't work itself all the way out!

within the 1st month of ownership i lost all but one of the mirror "bolts" and a rear footpeg bolt. seems the dealer didnt think it was necessary to check the torque of everything when they got it. after losing the 3rd mirror fastener i got smart and torqued everything.

being a twin i think they are just a little more prone to shaking themselves apart

I've never broken a mounting bolt, but I did have one go missing! I had the lower Rotary Dampener mounting bolt slide it's self out somehow, which kind of amazed me since it's something ike 4 inches long! That was a fun ride home. Like riding a po-go stick.

almost lost the sidestand the first month i had the tillis,
and two weeks ago , while cleaning, i found a large bolt lying in the space between the two cylinders....

asked my dealer to check things out (big 48.000 km maintenance), but he didn't find any spare holes

          otherwise, not broken nuffin'

I had fairing bolts and windscreen bolts all fall out in the first month - then the dampener bolt fell out - now it has happened again - well, I am still loving the TL-S.

Oh- yeah, I suppose if my dealer had any idea how to tighten a bolt none of that original stuff would have happened - not a torque wrench to be found on the whole premises!

I lost a kickstand bolt. Got another one and goobed it good with red loctite. No more problem.

I may have a problem if I ever desire to remove my kickstand though

I was pretending it was rewiring a fuse! Actually it is pretty hard to get my ham fists in there to do it.

I've heard of locite, and use it all the time. but I pick and choose what I loctite up.

Usually only low torque spec bolts, clutch cover, clutch springs etc, some other bolts / nuts that are critical (to me) i.e front sprocket.
