  • Aftermarket Brake line ?????

I just purchased a set of kevlar front lines and went to put them on my '01 TLR yesterday. I have put these on my '97 TLS without a problem, yesterday I wasn't so lucky.

I need to use the double banjo from the right caliper to switch with the master cylinder banjo bolt to run both lines from the master cyclinder to each caliper respectively.

This was not a problem with the TLS as I stated, switch bolts, tighten up, and bleed.............

The bolts on the TLR are not the same pitch?!?!So I can't just swap them?!?!?

I know alot of guys are running braided brake lines, so is this the case, and how/where did you get the bolts to rectify the situation. I can't find a pitch spec for the master cylinder bolt or the caliper bolt

I know the tops of the bolts have a 7 on one and a 7P on the other??

Can't help with the thread pitch, but I believe the "7" is to do with the torque spec of the bolts, check here http://home.iprimus.com.au/stevebm/tls_torque.htm

I bought Russell braided lines (by Edel Brock) and fortunately for me, I didn't have to swap bolts. Good luck bro.

I bought Fastline brake lines for my TLR. They came with a new double banjo for the m/c and two new singles for the calipers.

After consulting my Galfer catalog I realized that the standard banjo bolts come #10 1.00 pitch and #10 1.25 pitch.
The 1.25 pitch is the pitch of the Master cylinder and the 1.00 is for the calipers.
Strange change from 1997 TLS, but now I know.
Now I need to track down a double banjo #10 1.25

Is that just for the 2001 TLR or does it apply to earlier ones too?

I've got a 99 TLR, and was just about to install my SS brakelines when I saw your post.

Looking at the bolts they supplied me, they all look the same pitch. Could you look up your Galfer catalog and let me know if the 99 will face the same problem as you?

And just realised the tight bastards didn't give me any crush washers!

Ask not what TLP can do for you, but what you can do for TLP.

The catalog doesn't actually call out the bolts for specific bikes. I just noticed that all the brake manufacturers make these two thread sizes for Japanese sportbikes.

You can definitely tell the difference in thread pitch by looking at the bolt, so I would take one caliper bolt off and the Master cylinder bolt and check before you get the whole thing apart as I did..

I didn't want to do that as the R is my only transport. Anyway, based on the info, I went to the dealer and got my 1 mm pitch master cylinder bolt changed to 1.25mm.

Last night night I removed the old lines. And discovered it is 1mm pitch at the MC after all..

Looking forward to a relaxing bus ride to the dealer again..
